Yorkshire based international musician, Claudio Kron, is enlisting the help of local school children to bring a percussion extravaganza and Red Nose Fun to Dewsbury town centre.
On Friday 18th March, Red Nose Day, Claudio and his team will be in Dewsbury Market Place and will provide instruments for those children attending. The plan is to hold a warm up session and then stage a fun, lively and loud performance for all to see whilst collecting money for this amazing charity.
“We know through running our school drumming workshops at Drumming 4 Education that children love this kind of activity” said Claudio, “Red Nose Day is great fun and we wanted to contribute in some way, its ambitious but we would like to get over 100 school children down to the town centre on the day” he went on to say.

Drumming 4 Education also supports leading charities Samaritans, Macmillan Cancer care, Hollybank trust and are also helping to arrange a fundraising concert for victims of the Brazilian floods in the near future plus they also support other international charities.

Pascoal (b 1936) Brazilian musician and multi instrumentalist. As well as being a record producer, he is one of Brazil’s most loved composers.
From being a small boy, he was fascinated by the sounds of nature and played to the birds from with a fife he made from a pumpkin mammon pipe. He also used to make music with the scraps of metal he found in his Grandfather’s blacksmith workshop, but tying them up with bits of rope to produce musical sounds. By the age of 7 he picked up his father’s 8-bass accordion, and never stopped. He also played tambourine with his brother at parties and wedding receptions. He went onto play piano and the next the flute and by 1961 when he moved to São Paulo he is playing at many nightclubs with various bands, alternating the different instruments he has learned over the years. In 1966, with his group, Quarteto Novo, they used to ride in Television to take part in the television festivals, representing the best of Brazilian music of that time. They won one of the Brazilian Music Festivals with the song “Ponteio” and Pascoal goes on to win many other prizes as a talented music arranger with folk music of Brazil being an important influence in his work. Brazilian born drummer, singer, songwriter
Vinicius Cantuaria (b 1951) known in the genre of Brazilian Jazz and Bossa Nova which is a blend of Samba and modern Jazz that emerged from Rio in the late 1950’s. Having spent most of his career as a drummer in his rock band, O Terco in the 1970’s he still continues to play percussion, they was a point in 2000 at Arto Linday’s Jazz Café where he used his guitar to perform acoustic and maintained direct eye contact with the drummer until the song would eventually resort itself to a natural end.
He moved to New York in the mid 90’ and with six sold album releases under his belt, he is now more well know on the down town New York Jazz scene.
Brazil has suffered its worst ever natural disaster, with more than 600 people known to have died last week in the floods and mudslides that took place in the north of Rio de Janeiro state after exceptionally heavy rains.
The towns worst hit were Nova Friburgo (292 confirmed deaths, as of 17 January), Teresópolis (271) and Petrópolis (55) – all in the mountain region about 60 miles north of Rio de Janeiro city. The search for bodies is still going on, hampered by further heavy rain.
Many thousands of people are homeless, their houses having been destroyed by torrents of mud and water, and much of the region is without electricity.

I have been very fortunate to work with and record some great Brazilian artists over the past few years. The music is totally absorbing and it has opened my eyes and changed the way I think about music and definitely opened up a new path for me.
Its always great to here the banter between the different people from the different parts of Brazil as well. I have worked very closely with Cluadio Kron producing apresenta.
Claudio is an amazing talent and a player of so many instruments It has really tested me as sound engineer working with him and taught me so much about Brazilian and African culture and the history of Brazil. Guitarist Fred Lyra really opened my ears to a new way of playing I have not seen before.
A real talent. The diversity and rhythm of Plinio Dourado has impressed me. A great drummer but also an amazing guitarist as well. The album is the project I hold most close to my heart out of all the projects I have worked on over the years.
Over 500 people killed in recent floods
Horrific pictures you all can see plasted in the various websites across the globe. Brasil Australia and Sri-lanka have been affected by severe floods recently.
People out there are suffering from great unmeasurable pain, massive losses , which will in many places take years to recover.
Since last Friday I have been contacting a few organization in the hope to make something happen.
We need to do something to help this cause/appeal for all the Brazilian living in the UK and cross the planet + any body who has any relation to Brazilian Cultre Arts.
Please, plaese pass these info ahead get your community band, samba group do a little to raise some funds to HELP: Brazilian Embassy London is to provide very soon a RED CROSS bank account for any one who would like to help these cause.

across Europe. Marcos China is a Carioca (Carioca is person who is born in Rio de Janeiro) He travelled to over 20 countries promoting Brazilian culture and has worked alongside many well known artists in Brazil and abroad. He has also recorded sound tracks for TV and films.
China travelled went back to Brazil in 1987 to start a workshop to make organic percussion instruments. The instruments created and produce by China has been used by many percussionists around the world

Mestre Lua Rasta
In 1968 Mestre Bimba started something that he didn’t know quite what would happen! Bimba give his martial art talent to Lua Rasta. A year later he moved to Mestre Canjiquinha academy where he stayed for a long time, he then went onto join the fokloric group Aberre and started to develop Capoeira as a theatrical language.
Lua Rasta accomplished the course under the instruction of his master; he then participated in many Capoeira Roda in Brazil and around the world and in Europe he went onto spend three years opening doors to Capoeira Angola.
